Cartoon Carnival 80: Party Time
It's time to sit back and relax for another hefty batch of 16mm (no digital!) animated cartoons from the 1920s to the 1940s, straight from the Tommy Jose Stathes Archives to our secret silver screen in Bushwick!
Come on out for our super special 80th program, which is also our 10th anniversary celebration! Since June 2009, we have been sharing hundreds of archival cartoon rarities with thousands of audience members...and we're just getting started. In this "Party Time" themed program, various noteworthy cartoon celebrities of the early film world will grace our event with their own hectic and hilarious party scenarios. Betty Boop, Koko the Clown, and Farmer Alfalfa are just a few to note! We hope you'll bring all your friends out for this rare opportunity to enjoy these classic and now-uncommon cartoons the way they were meant to be seenprojected on 'reel' film!
The second session (7pm) session of our program features live ragtime piano by Charlie Judkins for guests' arrival, intermission, and as improvised accompaniment during select silent-era cartoon shorts.
Also on tap: check out our mini rummage sale featuring items from Tommys personal collection: VHS tapes and DVDs, past Cartoon Carnival and related show programs, books, antique decorative 16mm boxes, reels and films, vintage toys, Tommy zines, and many other goodies! Proceeds benefit our costly film archive storage expenses.
